The client approached us with the idea of creating a water bottle that contains gemstones. The gemstones are said to change the quality and structure of the water while giving it revitalising or strengthening properties. The combination of different gemstones is also said to have different effects and benefits to the water. Designing a bottle that reflects this key idea was vital to the products identity.

For this project the client was wanting to design a food friendly reusable water bottle that houses gemstones within the water. We started by experimenting with a wide variety of bottle designs and shapes, looking into different methods of incorporating the stones. This ideation process lead us to design a bottle with a form that mimics the subtle movements of flowing water.

The gemstone housing had to be designed in a way that ensured the stones would not come in direct contact with the water being consumed. Extra care was taken to ensure that this aim was achieved effectively whilst minimising part numbers, in an attempt to reduce the overall manufacturing cost for the client. With this in mind, the screw base was designed to work universally with each of the product ranges, further minimising the overall manufacturing cost.

The final product might look simple enough, but a lot of design and engineering went into creating a product that truly captures the identity of the brand. The way that the body catches and refracts the light as you turn it, gives the bottle the appearance of water moving in your hand. Filling the bottle with water also magnifies the contents, emphasising the gemstones and the insert housing them.
