CAPABILITIES
Design for Manufacture
Products designed to be made efficiently, reliably and at the volume you need.
MANUFACTURING STRATEGY
The right process, for the right volume.
Choosing the right manufacturing route for your product defines almost everything about it, including how it performs, how long it lasts and what it costs to make. The wrong decisions here can mean even a well-designed product ends up expensive to produce or difficult to service.
At SDW, we weigh up your product’s functional requirements, predicted production volumes and whole product lifecycle, including maintenance, disposal and recycling, before recommending a manufacturing approach.
Our engineers are experienced across a wide range of materials and processes. We can work with your chosen suppliers or draw on our own network of manufacturing partners, engaging with them early enough to shape your product’s design around what they can deliver.
TOOLING AND VALIDATION
Ready for the production line.
Complex, feature-rich components carry real tooling risk if problems surface only once a mould has been machined. To combat this, we work alongside your toolmaker or manufacturer from the feasibility stage, addressing any issues long before tooling begins, so you can commit to it with confidence, grounded in data.
We can work alongside your manufacturing partner to build an inspection strategy into the design itself, so you can measure and control quality from the very first production run. That same discipline carries through once individual parts come together as a finished product.
We’ll also work through the snagging that surfaces in your T1 samples, resolving issues with the tool and the process until your parts hold to specification. That support carries through pre-production and into manufacture, so every post-tooling challenge is closed out before your product enters mass production.

Why SDW?
Commercial focus
A product only succeeds if it can be built at the right cost, sold at the right price, and supported profitably after launch. We test every design decision against that commercial reality, alongside its technical merit.
Strategic thinking
We look past the immediate brief to the decision behind it, and challenge assumptions when the evidence points elsewhere. Checking feasibility early ensures the strategy never outruns what can realistically be achieved.
Creative problem-solving
The most obvious solution isn’t always the right one. We bring lateral thinking and structured experimentation to problems with no obvious precedent, testing unconventional approaches against real constraints before committing.
Multi-disciplinary team
Our mechanical, electronic and software engineers work alongside industrial designers and UX specialists on the same programme. It means problems get solved once, from every angle, rather than passed between teams and revisited later.
