Electronics Design

Circuit design, embedded firmware and connectivity, developed alongside the mechanical engineering from day one.

SAME TEAM, SAME PROGRAMME

Electronics built in.

Electronics and mechanical design are often treated as separate workstreams. They’re brought together late in the product development programme, once most of the decisions on either side have already been made.

We don’t do that here at SDW. Instead, our electronics engineers sit inside the same team as our mechanical and industrial designers, not downstream of them.

Our team handles the circuit design, PCB layout, firmware and prototyping as one team, so your product’s sensing, control, connectivity and power requirements all get settled while the physical design is still taking shape.

Both disciplines run to the same programme and the same milestones. A change on one side reaches the other immediately, so any components and firmware get developed together rather than getting reconciled at the end, once one side has already been locked down.

MINIATURISATION AND POWER

Compact by design, proven before launch.

Power requirements and physical size shape a product as much as its function does. Get either wrong, and your product will either miss its price point or fall short on its runtime.

We build miniaturisation and power management into your circuits and firmware from the outset, modelling component selection, thermal behaviour and battery life alongside the mechanical constraints they sit within. We also specify connectivity against the environment your product will operate in, whether that’s a factory floor, a hospital ward or a wearable.

Every PCB goes through structured prototyping and testing, checked against the relevant regulatory requirements before it reaches production, so your product enters the market with its performance already proven.

Work with us

Why SDW?

A product only succeeds if it can be built at the right cost, sold at the right price, and supported profitably after launch. We test every design decision against that commercial reality, alongside its technical merit.

We look past the immediate brief to the decision behind it, and challenge assumptions when the evidence points elsewhere. Checking feasibility early ensures the strategy never outruns what can realistically be achieved.

The most obvious solution isn’t always the right one. We bring lateral thinking and structured experimentation to problems with no obvious precedent, testing unconventional approaches against real constraints before committing.

Our mechanical, electronic and software engineers work alongside industrial designers and UX specialists on the same programme. It means problems get solved once, from every angle, rather than passed between teams and revisited later.

Every recommendation is backed by calculations, testing or precedent. We apply engineering standards and structured verification at each stage, so decisions can be defended to a regulator, a manufacturing partner or a board.
We adapt scope and method as a project evolves, without adding delay. We can work alongside your in-house team or take on a project in full, in whatever format suits you.
